“Be the best that I can be”

The St John’s Educational Trust is headed by three Headmasters, one for the Early Childhood Development Centre, one for St John’s Preparatory School for Boys and the other for St John’s College. These Headmasters are members of the Conference of Heads of Independent Schools of Zimbabwe.

ECD:

Janine Harvey

Janine Harvey was born in Harare and attended Chisipite Junior and Senior School. She studied in the UK for a Bachelor of Arts degree with Qualified Teachers Status and an Honors degree in Linguistics and Literature. Janine taught for a few years in the UK which provided valued learning experiences across varied age groups.

She has experience in teaching children with Special Educational Needs as well as children learning English as an Additional Language. When Janine returned to Zimbabwe, she taught at Heritage School for one year before having her own three children within four years. Janine was involved in the ECD from the beginning which was an ideal opportunity for her to link her experience gained in the UK to teaching styles in Zimbabwe and she has been able to combine the best of both worlds.

Janine believes in creating a safe, happy environment where children are encouraged to learn through hands on experiences, as well as through tailored questioning and child-centered activities that promote inquiry based learning. Janine takes great pride in acknowledging the value of the excellent teaching staff the ECD boasts.

Prep:

Ryan Barbour

Ryan was born in Mutare and schooled at Hillcrest in Penhalonga. He trained to be a teacher at MCTC in Gweru, whilst getting a BA through UNISA, where he met his wife Heidi. They returned to teach at Hillcrest for two years, before traveling to Scotland where they taught at Belhaven Hill School in Dunbar for five years. Returning to Peterhouse, he became housemaster of Malvern House for four years and then Tinokura housemaster for three, teaching art, geography and English, as well as coaching the 1st XV rugby and 1st XI cricket. He moved to St John’s Prep in 2012.

He has a wide variety of interests from beekeeping to bagpipes and has published three children’s books. Mr Barbour’s three children Meghan U6, William Form 3 and James Form 1 all attend St John’s College.

College:

Cavaliere Corrado Trinci

Corrado brings to his role as Headmaster of St John’s College, 30 years’ experience in the education sector in Zimbabwe gained at Peterhouse, St George’s College, Hellenic Schools and at St John’s since 2012.

In addition to his expertise as an educationalist, he is an outdoor education specialist and respected classical musician and music instructor in Zimbabwe. Corrado holds a bachelor of Arts Honours (Teaching) Degree from the University of Zimbabwe and a Bachelor of Education Degree from the USA. In his role as Deputy Headmaster, Forms 1 to 4 at the College (2012 – 2017), Corrado has made a significant contribution to the overall quality of the educational experience in addition to inspiring many of his History students and organizing and leading local and leading local and international tours.
