Eisteddfod

Choir

Both St Jon’s Prep choirs sang very well. The grade 3E choir was awarded a First Grade and the Junior boys choir was awarded first Grade Plus.

Drum and Pipe band

Shaan Patel played the Tenor drum with the St John’s College Pipe and Drum Band’s Novice Juvenile band and the band received a 2nd grade plus.

He also played a solo piece on the Tenor drum and received an Honours grade. He was the youngest and only solo player to receive an honours grade, well done Shaan!

Marimba Band

Item Student(s) Category Grade
Marimba Solo Daliso Mwanza Advanced First
Marimba Solo Daniel Schonenberger Advanced First
Marimba Trio Daliso Mwanza, Daniel Schonenberger, Tinevimbo Gwaunza Advanced Second
Marimba Ensemble 9 Students Beginners Third
Marimba Ensemble 9 students Intermediate Second
Marimba Ensemble 9 Students Advanced First

Despite the stiff competition as a result of category mix-up by the organisers of the NIAA that saw all primary schools competing against High schools, all St John’s Prep boys performed remarkably well. If they had competed in their correct category, they would have scooped Honours and 1st Grade result.

However, this competition to some extent stimulated the boys’ confidence, resilience, attitude, talent, maturity and competency. Their marimba performance skills have been well enhanced therefore contributing immensely to the students’ capacity building.
