Earlier in the morning, Hinde, a final year student at St John’s College, competed in a C/D semi-final where he achieved his tournament best of 7:34.13, finishing fourth.  The top three boats in the semi-final continued to Final C, and so Hinde fell just short of that mark and entered the D Final which he later won.[Kyle Hinde gets some coaching tips before his final race at World Jr Champs in Rio.]Kyle Hinde gets some coaching tips before his final race at World Jr Champs in Rio.

Zimbabwe’s two doubles did not have semi-final races, but only rowed in one race each on their final day of competition as both categories had three groups and no D final events.  Megan Dickens and Jennifer Lorimer of Chisipite Senior School beat Turkey to finish 5th in the C Final of the women’s double sculls in 7:54.81.  Stuart Duncan and Paul Zwanikken of St George’s College beat Argentina and Bahrain to finish fourth in the men’s double sculls in 7:08.49.

The four day World Junior Rowing Championships conclude tomorrow morning with A and B final races, after a prediction of winds too strong for fair competition proved unfounded.  Hinde and his teammates will come home proud of their competitive times and performances.
