Dear Parents and Guardians

St John’s College Drama Society is pleased to announce that our annual production for 2017 will be The Dog Logs. The play will be presented on Friday 30th June and Saturday 1st July, both at 7 pm in the College Hall. Tickets will cost $10 and will be on sale at the bursar’s office and at the ticket desk on the night (POS facilities will be available at both venues).

The play will be a unique and exciting theatrical experience which presents a series of dramatic monologues and skits, all told from the perspective of a number of canine characters. It incorporates both the funny side of a dog’s life alongside highlighting the plight of animals subject to a more tragic reality.
As Zimbabweans we can be proud of a fine history of supporting animal welfare. A number of organisations countrywide are dedicated to the care and humane treatment of animals. Many of these same organisations, however, currently face great difficulties in light of increasing economic hardship; indeed, many even face imminent closure.

St John’s has identified four such animal welfare charities which we are endeavouring to support through a number of fundraising activities. All ticket proceeds for The Dog Logs will be divided amongst The Friends Foundation, SPCA Harare, Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary and VAWZ.

In addition we are appealing for donations of dog (and cat) food (tinned meat, meal, biscuits, treats), bedding (blankets and old towels), flea and tick treatments, bowls of all sizes, newspapers, dog shampoo, leads, collars, leashes and harnesses of all sizes and suitable toys for pets. A collection box will be stationed in the quad at the College for donations and they will also be gratefully received on the nights of the production.

We would be grateful for any help, as would we appreciate your efforts in encouraging family and friends to come along and purchase tickets to the show. Our aim is to have two full houses on both nights … a total of 1000 tickets.

Thank you in advance for your support of this worthy cause!
