College | 1st Team Cricket Tour to Hilton College

St John’s College 1st Team Cricket took part in the Independent Schools Cricket Festival hosted this year by Hilton College in South Africa. The team was competitive in three of their four matches.

Our first encounter was against Clifton College which we lost narrowly by four runs with Brett Hounsell scoring a valuable 40 runs. We then drew our second match against Michaelhouse, with Brendan Mason bowling well to claim four wickets. We were then outplayed in our third match by Hilton College, losing by 118 runs. In our last match against Kearsney College, Michael Sprake batted well to score 71 runs on a difficult pitch which saw us posting a modest total of 148. We then bowled well and ended up losing by just four wickets with Dane Schadendorf getting three wickets off the six wickets we got.

It was a good experience for the young team which was well led on and off the field by our College Headboy, Cameron Butler. The tour had a positive influence on the team which will be valuable for the upcoming season. The team is young and talented and we look forward to a good season of cricket.
